One&Only Nyungwe House
A working tea estate on the edge of Africa's great montane rainforest

Nyungwe House stands at Gisakura, where a working tea estate runs right up against the boundary of Nyungwe Forest National Park, one of the largest intact montane rainforests left in Africa. Twenty-two rooms and suites are distributed across five timber villas, most with views over the tea rows toward the forest wall.
Nyungwe holds thirteen primate species, chimpanzees among them, and chimp tracking leaves very early for the best chance of contact. Less strenuous options include the Igishigishigi canopy walkway, suspended sixty metres above a ravine, and habituated troops of Ruwenzori colobus that move in groups of hundreds.
The lodge runs tea-picking and tasting sessions on the estate, forest walks with resident guides, and a spa that leans on local plant material. It is a markedly different landscape from Rwanda's volcanoes in the north, wetter and greener, and a natural second stop on a longer itinerary.
