Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti sits in the central Serengeti, built around a waterhole that elephant use through the dry months. The best-known image of the place is the infinity pool cantilevered above that waterhole, where guests watch herds drink from a few metres away without leaving the deck.
At 77 rooms and suites plus five private villas, it is far larger than the tented camps that dominate this region, and it trades intimacy for hotel infrastructure: three restaurants, a wine cellar, a six-pavilion spa, a gym, a discovery centre for children and a small on-site museum of Serengeti natural history. For families and for travellers who want a bed rather than canvas, that trade is often the right one.
Being inside the national park means game viewing starts at the gate, with the Seronera valley and its resident lion and leopard within easy reach. Hot-air balloon flights over the plains leave from nearby, and guides can position guests for the migration as it moves north or south through the park depending on the month.
