Southern Lakes sits on the shore of Nares Lake where it meets Tagish Lake, an hour southeast of Whitehorse and within the traditional territory of the Carcross/Tagish First Nation. Accommodation is a row of log cabins and larger deluxe villas, the best of them close to six hundred square feet with floor-to-ceiling lake views.
Summer is for canoeing and kayaking on water that stays light until nearly midnight, hiking the surrounding ridges, and fishing for lake trout and northern pike. Winter turns the property over to snowmobiling, dog sledding and snowshoeing, with the aurora borealis overhead from roughly mid-August through March — this is one of the more reliable viewing latitudes anywhere.
The resort restaurant works with Yukon game, fish and berries. Carcross and the Tagish Road put the Klondike Highway and the White Pass railway within easy reach.
