Clayoquot sits at the head of the Bedwell River estuary on Vancouver Island's wild west coast, inside a UNESCO biosphere region and reachable only by floatplane or boat from Tofino. The lodge is a camp rather than a building: white canvas tents on cedar platforms, furnished with woodstoves, proper beds and antique fittings, strung along the riverbank.

Guiding is the reason to come. Days go out to look for black bears working the shoreline at low tide, grey and humpback whales offshore, and salmon running the river in late summer; there is also horseback riding through the estuary, sea kayaking, paddleboarding and rock climbing. New for the 2026 season are bioluminescence night paddles and a private floating sauna in the inlets.

Stays are sold as three-, four-, seven- or ten-night packages covering all meals, drinks and guided activity, and the kitchen works almost entirely with British Columbian produce and seafood.
