Song Saa means sweethearts, the local name for the pair of islands, Koh Ouen and Koh Bong, that the resort occupies. A wooden footbridge crosses the channel between them, over water the owners had declared Cambodia's first marine reserve.
Villas are built from reclaimed timber and driftwood and come in overwater, beachfront and jungle varieties, all with private pools. One island holds the accommodation and restaurants; the other is left largely to the forest, with a single villa and walking trails.
The reef is in decent condition thanks to the reserve, and the resort foundation works with nearby fishing villages on conservation and education. Access is by speedboat from Sihanoukville, around forty minutes.
