Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita
Casitas scattered across a Pacific headland with Jack Nicklaus golf and Banderas Bay surf

This was the resort that made Punta Mita a luxury destination, and it still anchors the headland: two- and three-storey casitas spread across gardens and beaches at the northern tip of Banderas Bay, with the Sierra Madre rising behind.
Golf is a serious draw, with two Nicklaus courses including the much-photographed island green reached at low tide. Otherwise the days run to surfing lessons on the gentler breaks, boat trips to the Marietas Islands, and a spa laid out as a cluster of open-sided casitas.
Puerto Vallarta airport is about forty-five minutes away, which makes this one of the easier high-end Mexican beach resorts to reach from North America and Europe. Humpback whales pass through the bay in winter.
