Bumthang, in central Bhutan, is the country's religious heart, a cluster of four valleys dense with the oldest temples in the kingdom. The Amankora lodge here is built directly alongside Wangdicholing Palace, the first palace in Bhutan not constructed as a fortress.

Sixteen suites follow the familiar Amankora template of rammed earth, bukhari stove and deep soaking tub, with a long lounge and dining room where guests gather in the evening. It is the quietest lodge in the group.

Guiding focuses on Jambay Lhakhang and Kurjey Lhakhang, two of the country's most venerated temples, on the Swiss-founded brewery and cheese factory in the valley, and on walks between monasteries along the Chamkhar river.
