Victoria House has been on Ambergris Caye for decades and remains the island's most polished conventional resort: white colonial-style buildings, plantation shutters and a long line of coconut palms on a private stretch of beach south of San Pedro.
Accommodation ranges from rooms in the main house to thatched casitas and multi-bedroom villas with their own pools, which suits families and groups. There are two pools, a spa and a beachfront restaurant that draws non-residents.
The Belize Barrier Reef runs a few hundred metres offshore, so diving and snorkelling at Hol Chan Marine Reserve and Shark Ray Alley are quick trips, and the resort's dive operation handles the longer run to the Blue Hole.
