Itz'ana occupies a slice of the Placencia peninsula wide enough to have frontage on both the Caribbean beach and the lagoon behind, with a small marina on the lagoon side. The architecture reworks Belizean colonial forms in a more contemporary register, and many of the units are multi-bedroom villas with private pools.
The resort has invested in the things that keep guests on site: a rum room stocked with Central American bottlings, a spa, a beach club and a kitchen working with local fishermen and farmers. It is also a good launch point for fly fishing on the flats, which is some of the best in the region.
Beyond the peninsula, the southern cayes, Monkey River and the Maya sites of Toledo are all within reach, and the airstrip at Placencia connects to Belize City in about half an hour.
