The Siam is a privately owned 38-key hotel on three acres of frontage on the Chao Phraya River, in the Dusit district that once served as Bangkok's royal quarter. It is the only riverside resort of its kind in the historic centre, well away from the Sukhumvit hotel cluster.
Bill Bensley designed the property around a black-and-white Art Deco frame, filled with the owners' collection of Thai and Chinese antiques and arranged around planted courtyards. Accommodation is unusually generous for Bangkok: large suites plus ten pool villas with private gardens, plunge pools and roof terraces.
Facilities run well beyond the size of the hotel — a spa, a cooking school, a screening room, a Muay Thai ring and a sak yant tattoo studio. A complimentary boat shuttle runs to the major riverside piers, which is the fastest way to reach the Grand Palace and Wat Pho without touching Bangkok's traffic.
