A riverside lodge on the Ring of Kerry, where the Sheen tumbles past the terrace

Sheen Falls sits on a 300-acre estate where the River Sheen drops over a series of cascades into the tidal water of Kenmare Bay. The lodge began as the summer retreat of the Marquess of Lansdowne and has spent several decades as one of Kerry's most reliable luxury stays, with floodlit falls visible from many of the rooms.
It is a practical base for the Ring of Kerry and the Beara Peninsula, and the estate itself offers salmon fishing on private river beats, riding, clay shooting and long forest walks. The spa is a quiet, low-key affair rather than a showpiece.
The cellar is unusually deep for a country hotel, and dinner in the main dining room looks out over the water. Self-contained villas and cottages on the estate suit families and longer stays.
