Built by the Earls of Dunraven in the 1830s and reopened after a top-to-bottom restoration in 2017, Adare Manor is the most lavish country house hotel in Ireland. The building is a riot of carved stone, stained glass and long galleries, yet the bedrooms are calm and modern, and the staff-to-guest ratio is among the highest in Europe.
The 840-acre demesne runs along the River Maigue, with formal gardens, walled kitchen plots and a golf course redesigned by Tom Fazio that will host the Ryder Cup in 2027. Falconry, clay shooting, archery and river walks fill the days for guests who would rather not play.
Dining runs from the wood-panelled Oak Room to a relaxed clubhouse by the eighteenth green, and the spa occupies a purpose-built wing with a vitality pool and a long list of treatments. The village of Adare, with its thatched cottages, is a short stroll beyond the gates.
