Mount Juliet House was built in the 1750s above the River Nore and still anchors a 500-acre estate of parkland, woodland and river meadow. The manor holds a small number of individually decorated rooms; the contemporary Hunter's Yard, converted from the old stables, holds the rest along with a spa and pool.
Golf is the estate's best-known draw, on a Jack Nicklaus design that has hosted the Irish Open more than once. There is also an equestrian centre, archery, falconry and fishing on the Nore.
The Lady Helen restaurant in the manor house has held a Michelin star for more than a decade, cooking modern Irish menus in a Wedgwood-blue dining room. Kilkenny city and its medieval centre are twenty minutes away.
