Built in the colonial idiom of the town it sits in, the Rosewood occupies gardens a few minutes' walk from San Miguel's central jardin. Rooms are heavy on carved wood, local textiles and stonework, arranged around courtyards and a large pool terrace.
The rooftop Luna bar is a fixture of the town at sunset, looking straight across to the pink spires of the Parroquia. Downstairs there is a good spa, a cooking school and a restaurant that works with produce from the surrounding Bajio farmland.
San Miguel itself is a UNESCO World Heritage town of cobbled streets, galleries and silversmiths, at around 1,900 metres, so evenings stay cool even in summer. Queretaro airport is roughly an hour away.
