Plas Dinas Country House
The Armstrong-Jones family seat, eleven rooms and a seriously good kitchen

Plas Dinas was the Gwynedd home of the Armstrong-Jones family, and Lord Snowdon brought Princess Margaret here after their marriage; the walls still carry family photographs that most country hotels would have to invent. The oldest parts of the house date to the mid-seventeenth century, and it is Grade II listed.
There are eleven bedrooms, individually decorated and generously proportioned, several with four-posters and valley views. The Gunroom restaurant has become the main draw under chef Daniel ap Geraint, taking Welsh produce seriously enough to earn the AA's Restaurant with Rooms of the Year in Wales and a place in the Michelin Guide; dinner runs in two sittings and is worth planning the stay around.
The setting is unusually convenient for a country house: fifteen acres of grounds a few minutes from Caernarfon and its castle, with the Menai Strait on one side and the Snowdon massif on the other. Llanberis and the mountain railway are a short drive inland.
