The Parkgate occupies the former General Post Office on Westgate Street, an Edwardian baroque pile that had stood largely empty for years before the Celtic Collection spent heavily on converting it. It reopened as a hotel in 2021 and was named the AA's Hotel of the Year for Wales in 2024.
The conversion kept the marble, the columns and the sweeping staircase while inserting contemporary bedrooms and suites, many looking across to the Principality Stadium — close enough that match days are an event in the building itself. The Sorting Room restaurant takes its name from the building's past, and there are several bars including a rooftop terrace over the city.
A spa occupies the upper floors, with treatment rooms and thermal facilities. The location is as central as Cardiff gets: the castle, the covered Victorian arcades, the Millennium Centre and Cardiff Bay are all within a short walk or a few minutes by taxi.
