Heckfield Place
A Georgian estate run on its own biodynamic farm, deliberately unhurried

Heckfield Place took the best part of a decade to restore, and the care shows in odd, quiet ways — reclaimed floorboards, commissioned furniture, art hung as it would be in a private house. There are 45 rooms and suites, but the building rarely feels busy, partly because so much of the estate is designed to draw people outdoors.
The farm is the organising idea. Heckfield runs a biodynamic home farm with a dairy, a market garden and orchards, and the two restaurants are built around whatever comes in from them. Rates include a daily estate tour of the gardens, woodland and farm, along with tea and cake in the afternoon — small touches that push guests into the landscape rather than the bar.
The Bothy by Wildsmith is the wellbeing side: 17,000 square feet of treatment rooms, thermal therapies and an 18-metre water area, with a skincare range developed on the estate. There is also a cinema, a walled garden and a long chain of lakes to circle before dinner.
