Desroches lies in the Amirantes group, well over 200 kilometres southwest of Mahe, and is nothing like the granite inner islands. It is a low coral atoll island, flat, covered in coconut palms, and edged by a continuous ribbon of beach roughly fourteen kilometres long. The resort is the only thing on it.
The usual way to get around is by bicycle, and it is genuinely possible to ride for twenty minutes and see nobody. The island hosts a conservation centre run in partnership with the Islands Development Company and the Seychelles Islands Foundation, focused on green and hawksbill turtles and on the giant tortoises that roam freely across the property.
Diving and fly fishing are the main draws beyond the beach - the drop-off close to shore is dramatic, and the flats attract serious anglers. Accommodation runs from beach suites to multi-bedroom retreats with their own pools. Access is a 40-minute flight from Mahe on a scheduled resort service.
