Amanjiwo
A limestone crescent of suites facing Borobudur across the Kedu Plain

Amanjiwo stands in the Kedu Plain of Central Java, in a natural bowl ringed by volcanoes including Merapi, with the ninth-century Buddhist monument of Borobudur visible across the rice fields. Ed Tuttle designed the resort as a crescent of limestone pavilions curving around a central rotunda, echoing the temple's own concentric form.
There are 36 domed suites, a number with private pools, each opening onto a terrace facing the plain. The materials are pale local limestone and dark timber; the architecture is deliberately monumental in a way that few Aman properties are.
The resort arranges early access to Borobudur before the day crowds, along with visits to the Hindu complex at Prambanan, the smaller temples of Mendut and Pawon, and village walks through the surrounding fields. Sunrise trips up to the rim viewpoints and Javanese cultural performances round out the programme.
