The Storehouse Restaurant with Rooms
Shipwreck timbers, Orkney seafood and eight rooms on the Kirkwall waterfront

The Storehouse occupies a historic merchant's building on the Kirkwall waterfront, restored with its original masts and salvaged shipwreck timbers left visible in the fabric. Eight en-suite rooms sit above the restaurant, graded from Classic to Superior, the largest with double-ended baths and waterfall showers.
The kitchen is the draw. Orkney does extraordinary shellfish, beef and dairy, and the restaurant works through all of it nightly, with a bar running on afterwards. The Times named it among the top island hotels in Scotland.
St Magnus Cathedral is a two-minute walk, and the whole Neolithic complex — Skara Brae, the Ring of Brodgar, Maeshowe — is within half an hour. For a small property in a small town it punches remarkably hard, and the winter rates are among the best value on this list.
