The Lake Country House Hotel & Spa
A mock-Tudor spa hotel in fifty acres, with a lake, a hot tub and no phone signal

Llangammarch Wells was one of the Victorian spa towns of mid Wales, and The Lake is what survives of that era in comfortable form: a half-timbered house built as a fishing and hydro retreat, now run as a country house hotel with a substantial spa attached. It is genuinely remote, down single-track lanes in the Irfon valley, which is most of the appeal.
Accommodation covers bedrooms, suites and larger state rooms in the main house, plus lodge accommodation in the grounds. Dinner is a formal affair in the panelled dining room, and afternoon tea is something of an institution here.
Fifty acres of grounds hold landscaped gardens, woodland, a stretch of the River Irfon with fishing rights, and a lake with a small island and resident birdlife. The spa has an indoor pool, sauna, steam room, gym and a cedar hot tub set outdoors by the water; there are tennis courts and a nine-hole par-three course as well.
