The Chedi Muscat
Minimalist gardens, a 103-metre pool and a long private beach on the Gulf of Oman

The Chedi has been Muscat's design benchmark for two decades, a low white complex of pavilions set in twenty-one acres of clipped gardens and water channels between the Al Hajar mountains and the sea. The aesthetic is deliberately spare: dark wood, white linen, Omani lanterns and long uninterrupted sightlines, a world away from Gulf maximalism.
There are several pools, including a 103-metre adults-only Long Pool that has become the hotel's calling card, plus a private stretch of beach. The spa is the other reason people come, with a treatment list drawing on Balinese, Ayurvedic and Arabian traditions in a set of garden suites.
The Restaurant works four open kitchens covering Arabic, Indian, Asian and Mediterranean cooking, and the beachside seafood grill is the more relaxed option. Muttrah souk, the corniche and the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque are all a short drive away.
