Quintessence Hotel
Nine suites in a plantation-style house above an almost empty beach

Quintessence is the smallest of Anguilla's luxury hotels, a plantation-style house of just nine suites set above the quiet crescent of Long Bay on the island's west end. The scale means the staff outnumber the guests several times over and nothing feels systematised.
Suites are individually decorated with antiques, four-posters and deep verandas, some with private pools. The public rooms have the feel of a well-kept private house rather than a hotel lobby.
Julian's is the hotel's restaurant, taking reservations from outside guests and well regarded locally. Long Bay itself is usually empty, and the hotel arranges boat trips, snorkelling and transfers to the island's better-known beaches. It suits couples who want quiet over facilities.
