Raised walkways over the floodplain, in the place they call Predator Capital.

Mombo stands on the northern tip of Chief's Island in the Moremi Game Reserve, at the heart of the Okavango Delta — a place with a reputation so established among safari travellers that it is widely referred to simply as the Predator Capital of Africa. Lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog and hyena all work the same floodplains, and the density of game in front of camp is genuinely unusual.

The camp itself is raised entirely on stilts, with timber walkways linking nine tented suites above the grass so that elephant, buffalo and lechwe move underneath undisturbed. Each suite is vast and open-sided, with a private plunge pool and a sala facing the plain, and the design is deliberately soft — canvas, brass, hide and timber, nothing that competes with the view.

Game drives run twice daily on an island that floods seasonally, so the experience shifts through the year between dry-season concentrations at the waterholes and green-season birdlife and newborn game. Rates cover essentially everything on the ground; access is by light aircraft into the Delta, which is part of the point.
