Richard Branson's Mara camp: twelve sculptural tents above a migration corridor

Mahali Mzuri is Virgin Limited Edition's Kenyan property, a dozen tented suites strung along a ridge in the Olare Motorogi Conservancy. The architecture is deliberately unlike the usual safari vernacular: angular canvas shells on stilts, more tensile sculpture than tent, each angled so that the bed and the private deck face out over the valley below.

The conservancy lies on a corridor used by wildebeest and zebra moving in and out of the national reserve, so the herds pass through without the vehicle crowds found at the Mara River crossings. Because the land is privately leased, guiding is flexible: off-road driving, night drives and walks with Maasai guides are all on the table, and the camp maintains a close relationship with the landowning communities through its own foundation.

A recent refurbishment reworked the tents and the public areas, and the infinity pool on the escarpment edge remains the signature view. Rates cover everything from meals and drinks to laundry, spa treatments in the Nasaro tented spa and all game activities.
