Segera Retreat
A 50,000-acre Laikipia conservancy where wildlife, art and agriculture share the land

Segera occupies roughly 50,000 acres of the Laikipia Plateau between Mount Kenya and the Great Rift Valley, a former cattle ranch that has been progressively rewilded under the Zeitz Foundation. The result is unusual: wildlife, working agriculture, community projects and a contemporary African art collection all operating on the same piece of ground.
Accommodation is a cluster of eight villas raised on stilts among irrigated gardens, built from timber and stone with broad verandas and outdoor showers. The interiors double as gallery space for the owner's collection, and there is a botanical garden, a spa and a wine cellar tunnelled into the hillside. The scale of the property means guests can be out all day without meeting another vehicle.
Game viewing here is Laikipia's speciality rather than the Mara's: reticulated giraffe, Grevy's zebra, elephant herds moving between conservancies, and a black rhino population reintroduced to Segera in 2025. Horse riding, mountain biking, helicopter excursions to the Rift lakes and guided walks all sit alongside conventional game drives.
