La Donaira sits on a ridge in the Serranía de Ronda, inside the triangle formed by the Sierra de las Nieves, Grazalema and Los Alcornocales natural parks. The estate runs to several hundred hectares of biodynamic farmland, cork oak forest and pasture, and it is genuinely a farm first: vegetables, olive oil, honey and a herd of Lusitano horses are all produced here.
Guests are few. There are nine rooms in total, two of them yurts set apart from the main house, which keeps the place closer to a private estate than a hotel. Days are structured around whatever the guest wants: riding out into the sierras, walking, foraging in the medicinal garden, cooking with the kitchen team, or doing nothing at all beside the pool with the mountains laid out below.
The sustainability credentials are not window dressing. The estate generates its own power, treats its own water and grows most of what reaches the table, and the wellness programme is built around that rather than imported from a spa brand. Ronda, with its gorge and eighteenth-century bridge, is about thirty minutes away.
