Kamalame Cay is a ninety-six-acre private island off the eastern shore of Andros, the largest and least developed of the Bahamian islands. Guests cross by boat and then move around on foot or by golf cart; there are three miles of beach and rarely anyone on them.
Accommodation is in beach houses, cottages and villas with a barefoot, faintly colonial style: louvred shutters, four-posters, wide verandas, no locks on the doors. The rate is all-inclusive of meals.
The over-water spa, built on a dock with glass floor panels above the sand flats, is the signature. Beyond it, Andros offers the third-largest barrier reef in the world for diving, extensive bonefishing flats and blue holes inland. It is a place for people who want the Bahamas without Nassau.
