Jumeirah Muscat Bay occupies the sheltered cove of Bandar Jissah, where jagged limestone cliffs come down to a crescent of sand about fifteen minutes south of the capital. Rooms step up the hillside above the beach, and a set of one- to three-bedroom villas have private pools and terraces facing the water.
The cove is good for swimming and snorkelling, and the resort runs kayaking, diving and dhow trips out along a coastline of sea caves and rock arches. Behind the property the mountains offer via ferrata and hiking routes for guests who want something more strenuous.
Five restaurants cover Omani, Levantine and international cooking, the Talise spa handles the recovery end, and the family offering is unusually strong for a resort of this class. It works well as a base combining city sightseeing with beach time.
