The Middle East's highest resort, on a canyon rim 2,000 metres above sea level

Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar stands on the lip of Wadi Ghul, the great canyon that cuts through Oman's Green Mountain, at around two thousand metres. The air is cool enough that fireplaces are standard and it occasionally snows, which makes it the obvious summer escape from the coast.
The architecture borrows from Omani forts, all thick stone walls and crenellated terraces, and the infinity pool appears to spill straight into the canyon. Cliff-edge villas have private pools and some of the more dramatic balconies in the region.
The plateau is famous for its damask rose terraces, harvested each spring for rosewater, and the resort arranges walks through the abandoned villages of the wadi, via ferrata routes along the canyon wall, and dinners set up on rocky outcrops at sunset. Nizwa, with its round fort and Friday goat market, is about an hour and a half below.
