Hell Bay Hotel
The only hotel on Bryher, facing the wildest water in the Isles of Scilly

Bryher is the smallest inhabited island in the Scillies, with a population you could fit in a village hall, and Hell Bay is its only hotel. The buildings are single storey and painted in washed-out blues and greens, arranged around gardens and a heated pool.
The island's character is split: the western shore takes the full force of the Atlantic and gives the hotel its name, while a few minutes' walk east brings you to pale sand and water that looks implausibly tropical on a bright day. Boats run to Tresco, St Martin's and the off-islands from the quay.
Suites are generous and many are effectively small apartments with sitting rooms and sea-facing terraces. The kitchen holds three AA rosettes and leans heavily on crab, lobster and whatever the day boats bring in, and the hotel's own art collection is worth a slow look.
