A mile-long beech avenue leading to a Palladian mansion and 500 acres of parkland

The approach sets the tone: a mile of beech and lime avenue planted in the 1820s, ending at a Palladian mansion set in five hundred acres of Wiltshire parkland. Bath is roughly fifteen minutes away, though the estate feels far more remote than that.
Rooms and suites in the main house are formal and generous; a row of converted cottages in the courtyard suits families and longer stays. The spa is a serious operation, built around an indoor-outdoor hydrotherapy pool, thermal cabins and a large treatment list, and there is a Michelin-starred restaurant alongside a more relaxed walled-garden option.
The equestrian centre is unusual for a hotel of this kind, with a full stable yard and hacking across the estate for riders of most levels. There is also a cookery school, and the village of Castle Combe is a short drive north.
