El Silencio Lodge & Spa
Cloud-forest suites and hot tubs in a misty valley between two volcanoes

El Silencio occupies a steep valley at Bajos del Toro, between the Poas and Juan Castro Blanco volcanoes, where cloud forest, waterfalls and cold rushing rivers replace the beaches most visitors picture. Suites are freestanding timber cabins with outdoor hot tubs looking into the trees.
The lodge is built around slowness: a spa with treatment rooms over a stream, a cookery garden supplying the kitchen, and guided walks to waterfalls on the property's own reserve. Evenings are cool enough for a fire.
It is close enough to San Jose to work as a first or last stop on a longer Costa Rica itinerary, and it pairs naturally with Arenal a couple of hours north.
