Bodysgallen Hall & Spa
A seventeenth-century hall above Conwy, held in trust and run with quiet ceremony

Bodysgallen sits on a wooded rise between Llandudno and Conwy, its oldest part a medieval watchtower that later generations wrapped in seventeenth-century stone. The house passed to the National Trust in 2008 and is one of three Historic House Hotels run on the Trust's behalf, which means the money guests spend here goes back into the fabric of the place rather than to shareholders.
Inside, the rhythm is unhurried: panelled rooms, log fires, afternoon tea taken slowly, and a dining room that leans on the walled kitchen garden. Accommodation is split between main-house bedrooms and suites and a scatter of cottage suites in the grounds, several of which suit guests who want a front door of their own.
Outside lie more than two hundred acres of parkland, including a rare seventeenth-century knot garden of box and herbs, a walled rose garden and woodland paths that climb to a viewpoint over Conwy Castle and the Carneddau beyond. The spa occupies converted outbuildings and has a pool, sauna and treatment rooms; direct bookings include breakfast and spa access.
