Arenas del Mar occupies a headland on the edge of Manuel Antonio National Park and is unusual in the area for having direct access to two beaches of its own. Rooms step down the slope, most with terraces or plunge pools looking either into the forest or out over the Pacific.
The endangered Central American squirrel monkey, the titi, moves through the property's trees, and the hotel has been a long-standing part of local conservation work. Guided walks into the national park leave early to catch the sloths and monkeys before the crowds.
Quepos is ten minutes away for sport fishing and restaurants, and there are domestic flights from San Jose, cutting a three-hour drive to under half an hour.
