Six Senses Laamu
The only resort in its atoll, barefoot and built almost entirely of timber

Six Senses Laamu is the only resort in Laamu Atoll, a long way south of the usual Maldivian circuit, and that isolation shapes everything about it. The buildings are made largely of reclaimed timber and thatch, shoes are optional more or less everywhere, and the finish is deliberately rough-edged rather than polished.
The marine work here is substantial and genuinely integrated: resident marine biologists, a long-running partnership with the Maldives Underwater Initiative, and reef and seagrass monitoring that has fed into national conservation policy. Guests can sit in on research sessions rather than just read about them in a brochure.
Dining runs from an over-water breakfast deck to a treetop restaurant reached by rope bridge, plus a chill bar built on stilts over the lagoon. The spa and wellness offering is extensive in the usual Six Senses manner, with sleep programmes and visiting practitioners. Access is a domestic flight to Kadhdhoo followed by a short speedboat ride.
