Con Dao is an archipelago of sixteen islands roughly forty-five minutes by air from Ho Chi Minh City, long isolated by its history as a prison colony and now largely protected as a national park. Six Senses occupies a single kilometre of Dat Doc Beach on the main island of Con Son.
The villas are laid out in a long line facing the water, built in the style of a fishing village with weathered timber, pitched roofs and private pools that look straight onto the sand. Nothing is more than a short barefoot walk away.
The surrounding waters are among the most biodiverse in Vietnam, with coral reefs, dugongs and a green turtle nesting programme the resort supports. The interior of the island offers hiking, and the old French prison buildings make for a sobering half-day.
