Onguma The Fort
A stone-walled fortress overlooking Fisher's Pan on Etosha's eastern edge

The Fort is the flagship of the private Onguma reserve, which runs along Etosha's eastern boundary near the Von Lindequist gate. The building is unapologetically theatrical: thick stone walls, a central tower, arched openings and a palette that borrows from North Africa and India rather than from the usual safari vernacular.
Thirteen suites are strung out along the wall, well separated from one another and all facing a waterhole with Fisher's Pan and the white shimmer of the Etosha Pan beyond. Game drives run both on the private reserve, where night drives and walks are permitted, and into the national park itself.
Onguma also operates a sunken photographic hide and a sleep-out vehicle for guests who want a night in the open. The reserve carries plains game, rhino, elephant and cat, and the waterhole in front of the lodge does a good deal of the work on its own.
