La Residence
A theatrical thirty-acre estate of vines, olives and plum trees above Franschhoek

La Residence stands on a thirty-acre farm of vineyards, plum orchards and olive groves in the Franschhoek valley, with the Drakenstein mountains on three sides. The eleven suites in the main house are deliberately theatrical, each done in its own register, from Venetian to Indian to French colonial, with chandeliers, silk drapery and oversized baths.
Separate from the house are the Vineyard Suites and villas, which suit families or groups wanting more autonomy. A long formal pool runs between avenues of olive trees, and the gardens are extensive enough to wander for an hour.
Franschhoek village is a few minutes away by the estate shuttle, giving access to a dense cluster of wine farms and restaurants. Rates cover breakfast, snacks, a well-stocked minibar and a good range of drinks, which is unusual for a Winelands hotel.
