Kyambura Gorge Lodge was converted from an old coffee store on the rim of the gorge, a narrow forested rift cut into the savannah of Queen Elizabeth National Park. Eight bandas are spread along the ridge, each looking down into the trees and out across the plains toward the Rwenzori range.

The gorge holds a small, well-studied community of chimpanzees, isolated from the larger forests to the north, and tracking them involves descending into the rift on foot. The park above offers game drives for elephant, buffalo, the Kazinga Channel's hippo, and the tree-climbing lions of the Ishasha sector further south.

The lodge is the anchor of a long-running conservation and community programme in the surrounding parishes, covering a coffee cooperative, a women's group and reforestation of the gorge buffer. Guests are encouraged, not obliged, to see it.
