Kasbah Tamadot was bought by Richard Branson's family after a chance visit in the late 1990s and opened as a hotel in 2005. It stands on a spur above the Asni valley about 45 minutes south of Marrakech, with the High Atlas rising behind it and the Toubkal massif visible on clear mornings. The original kasbah building holds the antique-filled public rooms; accommodation spreads out into suites, garden riads and a cluster of Berber tents with their own hot tubs and pools.
Days here are built around the mountains. The hotel runs guided walks to nearby Berber villages, mule treks, mountain biking and, in the right season, serious approaches towards Jebel Toubkal. Less energetic guests get two pools, a spa and terraces with a lot of view.
The kitchen splits between Moroccan tagines and lighter Mediterranean cooking, much of it from the hotel's own gardens. Staff are drawn largely from surrounding villages, and the property funds a local training and community programme.
