Another Place, The Lake
Swim, paddle and steam on the quiet shore of Ullswater

Another Place sits on the western shore of Ullswater with its own stretch of lake frontage, and the water is the whole point. Guests swim from the shore, take out paddleboards and kayaks, or retreat to the indoor pool when the Cumbrian weather asserts itself. The tone is deliberately unbuttoned — wet swimsuits and muddy boots are treated as evidence of a day well spent.
Accommodation spreads across a Georgian house and a modern wing, with family-friendly rooms that are unusually well thought out for a property at this level. There is a spa, a supervised children's club in peak periods, and a kitchen that leans on local suppliers without making a performance of it.
Ullswater is the quieter of the big lakes, and the setting rewards that: steamer jetties, the Aira Force waterfall and the long ridge walk up Helvellyn are all close at hand.
