Amanzoe crowns a hill above Porto Heli on the eastern Peloponnese, and its architecture makes no secret of where it is: colonnades, pale stone, reflecting pools and clean classical geometry arranged as a modern acropolis looking out over olive groves to the Argolic Gulf and the islands beyond.

Accommodation is in standalone pavilions, each opening to its own terrace and private pool, plus a collection of larger villas staffed with their own chef and host. The Aman Spa runs across two pavilions with Pilates, yoga, hammam, watsu and treatment suites, and there is a Greek-amphitheatre-shaped open-air performance space cut into the hillside.

A short drive below, the private Beach Club occupies a quiet bay with its own restaurant, boats and watersports. Spetses and Hydra are a short hop across the water, and the archaeological weight of the Argolid — Epidaurus, Mycenae, Nafplio — is within an easy day's driving, which gives the stay somewhere to go when the pool eventually palls.
