Freestanding cabins on 140 Hudson Valley acres beneath the Shawangunk Ridge

Ninety minutes north of Manhattan, Wildflower Farms spreads across a hundred and forty acres of meadow and working farmland in Gardiner, with the white quartzite cliffs of the Shawangunk Ridge filling the western horizon. Accommodation is a set of freestanding cabins rather than a hotel block — timber, deep porches, wood stoves in the larger ones, each angled for privacy and a view.
Much of what the kitchen serves at Clay, the main restaurant, is grown on the property's own farm; the rest comes from Hudson Valley producers who have made this one of the more serious food regions in the northeast. Thistle, the spa, works with botanicals harvested on site.
The daily programme is included and deliberately low-key: foraging walks, beekeeping, archery, stargazing, seasonal farm work. The Gunks are among the best rock-climbing crags in the eastern United States, and Mohonk Preserve's trail network starts a few minutes up the road.
