Hotel Tresanton

Tresanton grew out of a former yacht club and a huddle of fishermen's houses on the hillside above St Mawes, and it still feels like several buildings persuaded to behave as one. Mosaic terraces step down towards the water, and almost every room looks out across Falmouth Bay towards St Anthony Head lighthouse.
The interiors avoid the usual nautical cliches. Rooms are pale and unfussy, hung with paintings by Cornish artists and furnished with pieces that look collected rather than specified. Many open onto private terraces where breakfast arrives without ceremony.
The kitchen leans hard on the day boats landing at nearby quays, and the hotel keeps a 1939 racing yacht for guests who want to get out onto the water. Walkers can pick up the coast path from the door; everyone else tends to stay put on the terrace.
